A Ray of Sunshine is the first side story from Listening to My Heart and is the story of Jefferson Hobble (Generation 2). Jeff has always been known as Mr. Cool by his family since there isn’t much that rattles him; that is, until his senior year in high school. He starts to date Rosamund Carter and falls hard for her, even though his lifelong friend Star Randall warns him to be careful. After a lapse in judgment on prom night, Jeff finds his life is turned upside down and his dreams of being mayor of Appaloosa Plains may be over; along with his friendship with Star. As darkness starts to close in around him and there doesn’t seem to be much light in his life, he starts looking for that one ray of sunshine that will lead him out of the darkness.

Back to Life is the second side story from Listening to My Heart and is the story of Trevor Davila's (Generation 3) journey to become the man he wants to be. For over nine years, Trev has run away from dealing with his dad's death. He's lost himself in women, booze, and the fame that being a pro-football player brings; but it's all caught up with him. Having recently gotten help for alcohol abuse, he makes the decision to be the kind of man his dad would be proud of. As his journey continues, he finds help and support from those he would expect, but also from those he had long ago tried to forget.
